Nantucket Historical Association Museum Children's Activity Book

This past summer I did a commission for the Nantucket Historical Association creating artwork for an entirely new childrens' activity book planned to be released next year. The book will allow children to interact with the Whaling Museum's collections in a meaningful way that teaches them about the artifacts they see through fun games and activities.

Above is a wrap-around cover I did; the final book will have text over it. The paintings were designed to focus on the artifacts and history of Nantucket in a child-friendly, non-graphic-side-of-whaling manner. The paintings below are a small selection of the many works I did for the book. The rest can be viewed in the book when it is completed. All illustrations were done with a mixture of watercolor and photoshop painting.

Brant Point Lighthouse

The Legend of Maushop
(a Wampanoag tale)

Scrimshaw Bicorn Horse Pie Crimper
(it's a side view but the thing actually has two horns)

I've been wanting to do this piece for a couple years! Literally! But I always struggled trying to achieve a composition I like and find a way to really do Venom justice, so I hope I've unlocked that achievement! He's my favorite comic book villain >:D freaked me out when I was a kid tho. Thanks to all the con-going artist friends who critiqued this before I uploaded it so I could make some fun adjustments! Onto the next project.

Venom and Spider-man are ©Marvel

You can get a full view download of this on my deviant art page for it.

Vampire Llama for 20K dA Views!

Recently I passed the 20,000 pageview mark on deviantART. It's nothing compared to how many views some of the people I follow have lol, but you gotta start somewhere right? And each and every pageview means the world to me.

So as thanks, I decided to resurrect an old character I came up with in college with a friend: Vampire Llama! Interestingly enough, posting this and submitting it to a bunch of dA llama fan groups got me a wealth more pageviews. People are obsessed with llamas! I'm intending on drawing a lot more of him in the future. Maybe a comic?

Pokemon Halloween

Another Pokemon fanart! This was specifically for Halloween, as I got pretty pumped up from playing tons of X and Y. Convention season is over so it's back to my studio and plenty of new work to be done! A lot of original pieces in the works too. Look forward to them!

Ice Cold Water

If you've ever been to Otakon before, you're probably familiar with the "Ice Cold Water Guy". If not, watch this short video.

He's become somewhat of a celebrity and a big part of Otakon over the past few years. So for Otakon's art contest to illustrate "what Otakon means to you", I decided to draw him in sort of like a Street Fighter style. Yeah I know, it isn't really what Otakon means to me. Probably why I didn't place in the contest! But that's okay, I didn't think I would. Once I got on a roll with this idea, I couldn't stop! XD

And if you've stuck with it this long, check out this remix someone made. Seriously I can't get enough of this haha.

If you were directed here from my business card, please check out my deviantart and look forward to more things to come! I'll do a post about the con here soon (maybe tomorrow??)

Looking for a good thriller based on events that transpired in the Communist Party of China last year? Then check out Chongqing Burning. It's great, only $2.99, and I did the cover.

Django Sketch

Man I had a lot of fun doing this sketch. I loved Django Unchained so much that I bought the soundtrack on iTunes as soon as I got home XD Easily one of Tarentino's best.

I've been working on a lot of different things but haven't experimented much lately, so I devoted some time to that in this piece. Went for a sort of Red Dead feel for this study. Also wanted to experiment with glow effects as I'm planning on using them in some paintings soon. And I also tried out some new brushes that Sandara on deviantart uploaded ( I mostly used the canvas brush for the background and the multi-purpose square brush for Django. Photo I used for reference:
